Newsweek on Feb. 24, 2003 quotes UN document – the debriefing of the Iraqi official in charge of WMD — “All were destroyed in 1991.”
Whew! Just in time to stop a patently unnecessary attack in Iraq, right? But wait, CIA spokesman asserts (with a “cross-my-heart-and-hope-to-die”) that the report is “incorrect, bogus, wrong, untrue;” and media say, Gosh, thanks for letting us know before we could run that story. Seemed like a showstopper, before we asked!
Now Washington Post and NY Times are accelerating the spinning of stories about spinning centrifuges – in Iran this time, and on Feb. 7 CIA nominee Brennan, under oath (and contradicting the unanimous judgment of all 16 US intelligence agencies) asserted the following:
“And regimes in Tehran and Pyongyang remain bent on pursuing nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missile delivery systems.”
Leaving aside for the moment the too-clever-by half conflation of Iran with North Korea, this brings a flashback to exactly ten years ago – just before US/UK forces attacked Iraq. This time, who will do “counter-spin?” Who will expose Brennan for the charlatan he is? Sadly, not Dianne Feinstein; still less, the cowardly Congress; still less the “mainstream media.” There is only us.
Issues include 10th annual Sam Adams Award to Thomas Fingar in Debating Chamber, Oxford Union, Jan. 23; Katharine Gun (British whistleblower and Sam Adams awardee in 2003) “The Spy Who Tried to Stop a War;” Dining with Julian Assange, Jan. 22; the non-existent “threat” from Iran – the neocon approach; why John Brennan’s record – on slanting substance, as well as mounting operations — should nix his candidacy to head CIA.
