My advice to Biden at 2008 VP debate w/Palin: Apologize for urging Congress to bless George W Bush attack on Iraq; contritely ask forgiveness; express a ‘firm purpose of amendment’. Might be disarming (Trump’s 2 yrs at Fordham exposed him to this process.)
