“Listening to the blockheaded Englishman left me with a profound sense of despair. Thank God you introduced some serious reality into the conversation. The foolish nonsense regarding the unprovoked Russian invasion is repeated with same ferocity as the Athanasian creed. Reality is absent. Worse, the Englishman has learned nothing from the last 120 years of human history. The English obsession with Russia is too reminiscent of the English obsession with Germany for comfort. Only our intervention prevented Britain from abject defeat twice. There will be no third rescue. They will just go under fighting Russia.”

I had Googled Tobias Ellwood before the interview. Found out he was one of those “high mucky-mucks”, for whom my grandmother had few kind words. Jane Fahy had “earned her fortune” (as she put it) serving as a seamstress for a wealthy socialite. So grandma knew whereof she spoke. Wikipedia adds that Ellwood’s career included service as an Army captain in the “Royal Green Jackets”, who, it is said, were “actively involved in operations in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, bringing peace and order in the region.” Or, in more straightforward language, suppressing my cousins in Derry. I am glad the interview was virtual. I am not in need of any further tests of my copious training in non-violence. For good measure, I’ll tack on a few things Wikipedia lists under Ellwood’s “Personal Life.”
In June 2009, Ellwood was attacked by a group of youths after confronting them for playing football in the street. The gang threw stones at him and Ellwood was punched in the head. A 17-year-old male was arrested over the attack.
In July 2022, whilst driving, Ellwood allegedly ran over a cat in his home neighborhood, then failed to stop. He claimed to have been unaware that he had run over the cat. His house was later attacked.
