Citizen activists, medical doctors, and former U.S. officials in the American citizens delegation, led by Sharon Tennison, President of the Center for Citizen Initiatives have not let themselves be intimidated by the anti-Russian rhetoric across the ocean. They are here in Crimea, seeing with their own eyes how the situation here is very different from the way it has been portrayed mainstream media in the West. On June 22, they joined Crimeans in commemorating the 75th anniversary of Hitler’s attack on Russia.
After a day of speeches and meetings with various officials and citizens in Yalta, a “Swim for Peace and Friendship” was organized by citizens delegation member Elizabeth Murray in a symbolic attempt to refresh relations between Russia and the U.S.A. Several Soviet Army and Navy veterans of World War II took part in the swim, as well as earlier, in the more somber ceremonies.
